Purchase Apocalypse or Classic Crates, collect featured items on the Crate Carnival board to win great Rewards!
Once you have completed the Mastery round, you can start again.
Please note: Crates obtained through Crate Bundle, Starter Packs, Booster Pack, Mega Pack and Stuffed Crates do not qualify for Crate Carnival. Direct Crate purchases made from the Marketplace or the Crate Carnival feature will be considered for your progress in Crate Carnival.

Q: What is Crate Carnival?

Q: How does it work?
A: You will be able to see the Crate Carnival module on the Home Page. Click on the “Play Now” button to start playing

Clicking on Play Now will take you to the Crate Carnival Board.
You will be able to see the following sections on the game board:
1 Start Time: This time-stamp indicates the following:
a. Start Time: The time when you started playing Crate Carnival (while playing for the first time) which, by default is Feb 19, 2013 9 PM PT. Please note that the items obtained from Crates purchasesONLY beyond this time will be considered for the current Carnival progress/Mastery round. In other words, previous purchases or items acquired from Crates before this time stamp will NOT becounted for progress in the current Crate Carnival.
b. Restart Time: The time when you re-started the Crate Carnival (after completing the mastery/progress) or clicked on the “Restart Crate Carnival” button. Please note that the items obtained from Crates purchases ONLY beyond this time will be considered for the current Carnival progress/Mastery round. In other words, previous purchases or items acquired from Crates before this time stamp will NOT be counted for progress in the current Crate Carnival.
2. Featured Item Slots: You will be able to see Featured Item Slots (shown below) which will have the Featured Items for Crates Carnival greyed-out, until you find them in your Crate purchases.
Hover over the Item Slots to see which Crate they belong to.
You will need to purchase the respective Crate for a chance to find these items and to progress further in the Crate Carnival.
Once you find a Featured Item in the Crate, the Item Slot will show the item image instead of being greyed-out:
3. Progress Bar: This bar will indicate the progress of items collected for the current Crate Carnival Mastery round. When you buy a Crate and receive any of the featured items for the first time, you will be notified through a purchase confirmation pop-up and the progress bar will be check marked:
Please note that the Featured Items in the Crate Carnival will be highlighted only for the first time you obtain them during a Mastery round. If you receive these items again in the same mastery round, they will not be highlighted.
The Mastery round progress will be visible on the Home Page module and Crate Carnival game-board as well.
Q: What are the Rewards?
A: Once you collect all the 8 Featured Items from your Crate Purchases, you will complete the Crate Carnival game board and will receive a Drug Dealer (254/185) and 30 Skill Points.

MW New Features and Events Coming
Dear Mafia Wars players,
As 2013 gets underway, the entire Mafia Wars team here is excited about the new features we are working on to make your favorite game even more fun, engaging and rewarding. Today, we wanted to share some of our upcoming new features and events that will be launching over the next few months in Mafia Wars:
1. Mafia Wars players have been requesting a new city for a while now. We recently published the survey for the next Mafia Wars city. Based on your feedback, we’ll be releasing a brand new city for all of you to enjoy soon. Vote now http://zynga.tm/p1h if you haven’t already.
2. Given the positive response from our player community to the Arena, we will be adding a number of social features: Families will now be able to battle each other and amongst themselves in private rooms and you will be able to challenge rivals or create an instant rematch after finishing an arena. In addition, we will be adding multiple new PvP (Player vs Player) modes and events.
3. The Operation: Italian Files was very well received by our players and you have asked us for more events like these. Look out for more Operations - coming soon!

FB Accounts Locked for Scan
Facebook found a new use for some of the Mafia Wars spam we see in our news feeds. Unfortunately many of these requests are in a players advantage to accept and they will now be slowed down due to a forced malware checkpoint. Players are now getting locked out of their Facebook accounts until they complete the viral scan either McAfee or Microsoft Essentials. So far players have reported getting this game interrupting check point while clicking on a Stranger’s Swag or War request. Zynga needs to talk to Facebook and get this nonsense to stop. Mafia Wars requests are an annoying part of the game but they aren’t malware nor will they hurt anyone’s computer. Obviously Facebook is getting paid by the companies offering these free but forced scans (see image #6). Below is a the process players locked out of their accounts need to go through in order to get them back. 
FB Malware Checkpoint
Over the past few months Facebook Security has been focused on helping our users stay free from malware. Malware, short for malicious software, are programs installed on your device to disrupt normal operations, collect personal information or gain access to a system. For the past couple years, we have developed systems to proactively identify spam and other malicious content posted on Facebook by user devices infected with malware. After we identify a possible infection, we will notify the user and provide, free of charge, an anti-virus product capable of cleaning the user's device. Now, we are pleased to offer these tools directly to the people who use our service. If you are concerned that your device may have been infected by malware, you can visit http://on.fb.me/infectedMSE or http://on.fb.me/infectedMcA to be self-enrolled in either our Microsoft Security Essentials or McAfee Scan and Repair malware checkpoints.
This April, to help protect our users and their devices from viruses and malware, we launched the Facebook Anti-Virus Marketplace to provide free anti-virus from the industry's leaders and made significant enhancements to our external blacklist system to bring our users even better protection against harmful websites that may download a virus directly to your computer. And last month, we made changes to our mobile reporting flows and introduced Code Generator for Android to bring even more of our safety and security features to mobile. Finally, we partnered with external computer security teams to notify affected users if they have been infected by DNSChanger to help these people ensure continuous connectivity.
Previously, if you suspected you may have malware installed on your device, you would either need to run anti-virus on your device or wait until Facebook identified an actionable threat. Now, with our new self-enrollment malware checkpoint, you will be able to proactively obtain your choice of a free anti-virus product to scan and clean your system.
We currently offer two products for all of our users: McAfee's Scan and Repair and Microsoft's Security Essentials.
- The McAfee option will download a small program onto your Windows computer to perform a one-time scan of your system for malware. It will not interfere with your existing anti-virus or other security products. After it scans your system, it will give you the option to automatically or manually remove the files it flags as malicious.
- The Microsoft Security Essentials option is a full anti-virus product. Upon download and install, it will add anti-virus software to your computer that will continue to protect your system with the latest anti-virus signatures from Microsoft.

Family Boss Fights pit your entire family against an epic boss. In the case of Mick Gouda, you'll have 7 days to reduce his 1,000,000 health to zero to win the fight. Once these 7 days are over or whenever the timer runs out on a Family Boss Fight, the boss' health resets and you will have another chance to prove that your family is in charge.
